Abstract

1456903 Automatic frequency control INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 8 Feb 1974 [21 Feb 1973] 05877/74 Heading H3A A frequency synthesizer comprises: a voltage controlled oscillator 1 whose frequency is F A ; a divider 2 producing an output f A = F A /N; a frequency comparator 5, e.g. of the type described in Specification 1,439,015 receiving the signal f A and a reference signal f B to produce a first error signal for controlling the oscillator 1; and a sampling-type phase comparator 10 receiving the signal f A and a second reference signal mf B to produce a second error signal for controlling the oscillator 1. The phase comparator 10 is of the type in which FET 16 is controlled by signal f A to sample a ramp signal generated by 12 ... 15, the ramps being generated at a rate mf B . The signals f B and mf B may be generated by a higher frequency source 8 followed by a divider 7. The signal mf B is shaped by a pulse shaper 9, an alternative form of which, using a bi-stable (21), is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown).
