Abstract

1456683 Furnace charge supports SCHNEIDER & CO 23 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 54574/73 Heading F4B A method of firing ceramic articles comprises placing a plurality of such articles on a support surface, placing an apertured sheet of heat resistant material over the tops of the ceramic articles to hold them together and firing the articles in a kiln. The articles e.g. pipes 2 are mounted on the base 1 of akiln truck and covered by a grid 3 with downwardly flanged edges 5, further short pipes 4 being disposed on the grid. A modification (Fig. 2) has a cranked grid (23) accommodating pipes of different lengths and in this embodiment the grid sections may be articulated. In further modifications (Figs. 3 and 4) the rods forming the grid are bent locally either upwardly or downwardly to form dimples engaging the pipes. The grid may be flexible or may be replaced by an apertured plate.
