Abstract

145,656. Akeley, C. E. July 23, 1918, [Convention date]. Kinematograph apparatus; optical systems.-A finder tube for cameras, and more especially for moving-picture cameras, comprises two sections 14, 6, Fig. 1, the former being attached to the camera 2 which pivots on an axis 5 and the latter being rigidly mounted on an arm 8 of the camera support 3. The section 6 carries a fixed prism 16, Fig. 3, and eyepiece 7, and is connected to the section 14 by a flexible strip 15. A second prism 17 is suitably mounted on the axis 5 and one edge 20 of the prism is kept against a properly-shaped cam surface of the lever 18 so as to deflect the image through the finder lens 21 to the eyepiece when the camera and the section 14 are tilted. The camera has a notched segment 13 which is engaged by a stud 12 on a resilient plate 10 secured to the arm 8. In order to examine the image on the focal plane 24, Fig. 4, a fixed prism 23 may be fitted behind the focal plane and a movable prism 25 fitted below this prism which can be drawn down by a handle 29 into the section 14 to reflect the image on the focusing-screen through the finder tube.
