Abstract

1456477 Electrocuting insects RID-O-RAY INC 23 May 1975 [20 June 1974] 22469/75 Heading AIM An insect electrocution device comprises a light source, preferably formed of four fluorescent tubes 16 and a reflective baffle 24, mounted between end plates 20 and 22, a first conductive grid 26 extending around the light source and between the end plates to enclose the light source, a second conductive grid 28 extending around the first conductive grid and between the end plates so as to enclose the first conductive grid, and a power supply device for supplying electrical power to the grids, a collection tray 60 and end caps 46 and 47 being provided respectively between the end plates, externally of the second conductive grid and at the ends of the light source and grids, the remainder of the device being exposed for free access by insects. The electrical power supply is a transformer 52 and the tray 60, hinged at 62, has a latch assembly 64 by which an electrical switch 66 is closed when the tray is in its horizontal position, but open when the tray is swung open for cleaning. The embodiment of Figure 4 (not shown) has U-shaped fluorescent tubes (74) contained in sockets (76) in a removable mounting plate (78). In the embodiment of Figure 5 the device can be hung vertically with end cap 80 constituting a hinged, latched, bottom tray, the electric components being contained in the then upper end cap 82.
