Abstract
1456403 Resistance strain gauge WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd 9 Dec 1974 [4 Jan 1974] 00472/74 Heading G1N A transducer, for measuring stress applied to a mechanical structure such as road or rail vehicles, presses, weigh bridges, ships or buildings, comprises an S or Z-shaped metal, glass, ceramic or plastics strip attached by welding or bolting the end portions A and B to the mechanical structure to be tested and has at least two strain gauge elements arranged on the central portion G as a Wheatstone Bridge H so that any stress applied to end portions A, B imparts a shear strain to the strain gauges whereby the shear strain and hence stress can be measured. The Bridge H may be in the form of a chip of semi-conductor material on which Piezoresistive strain gauges are formed by a diffusion process.
