Abstract

1456383 DC - DC converters MULLARD Ltd 18 March 1974 [16 March 1973] 12733/73 Heading H2F [Also in Division H3] A D.C.-D.C. converter comprises a transistor TR2 arranged to switch current into the primary L6 of a transformer T3 and having feedback from a current transformer T2 to the base, a resistor Rs being included in the base circuit, the voltage drop across Rs being arranged to turn off transistor TR2 when the current in the main path reaches a predetermined value. As described, operation is initiated by a starting circuit (not shown) which turns on TR2. The base and collector currents build up until the voltage across Rs reaches the triggering voltage of a threshold sensing device TSD e.g. a Schmitt trigger, which cuts off TR2. The energy stored in T3 is then rectified at D1 and supplies a load RL. The circuit then remains quiescent until a further input is supplied by a feedback circuit F/B which controls the frequency in dependence on the required output power. For constant load the frequency is constant over a range of input voltages. An auxiliary winding may be included in T2 or T3 for starting.
