Abstract
1456309 Drilling fluid supply systems DRESSER INDUSTRIES INC 27 Feb 1974 [15 March 1973] 8989/74 Heading E1F A rotary drilling machine includes a drive shaft 26 extending sealingly into a fluid supply fitting 24 bolted to the top of the housing 20 in which the drive shaft is mounted the seal between the shaft and the fitting being provided by O-rings 31, 32 which may be carried by the shaft or by the fitting. In a modification, the shaft does not extend into the fitting but terminates in the housing below a shoulder therein, the shaft again having O-rings which in this case engage the bore of the housing. The raise drilling machine disclosed includes a platform 14 movable along an adjustable column 12 by rams 17, 18, the shaft being driven by motor 21 and being connectible to a drill string assembled from drill pipes 19 each having flats 22 engageable by slips 23 during make-up or break-out of each drill pipe.
