Abstract

1455649 Pipe couplings KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 10 April 1974 [18 April 1973] 15834/74 Heading F2G An end fitting for a pipeline 2 consisting of two coaxial, corrugated metal pipes 3, 4 having a reinforcing tape 5 helically wound on to the inner pipe 3 and the space 10 between pipes 3, 4 being under pressure other than normal atmospheric pressure comprises a bush 6 having a flange 7 at one end and at the other end an internal screw thread 8 screwed on to outer pipe 4; a radial hole 9 therein, to provide communication between space 10 and a means of pressurizing or evacuating the space and a radial hole 11 for the introduction of solder to secure tape 5 to bush 6. When attaching the end fitting to pipeline 2 a plastics sheath 12 and an anti-corrosion layer 13 are first removed from pipeline 2 and then an end portion of outer pipe 4. A loose flange 14 may then be slipped over the end of pipeline 2 and bush 6 is screwed on to pipe 4 until inner pipe 3 projects preferably 1 mm. out of bush 6. The edge of pipe 3 is then hammered up flush against circumferential chamfer 15 at the end of bush 6 where it is secured by soldering. Solder is introduced into hole 11 and hole 9 is provided with a tubular connector 16. Finally bush 6 is soldered in the circumferential region 17 of its inner end to pipe 4. A sleeve 19 may be shrunk on to pipe 4 to protect its exposed portion against corrosion.
