Abstract
1455428 Ceramic seals NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 21 Nov 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 54097/73 Heading B3V [Also in Division C1] A microcrystalline glass containing: CaO 5-40%, SiO 2 35-70%, MgO 9-30% and Al 2 O 3 3-30%, apart from compatible constituents, such as up to 10% BaO to retard devitrification is used for coating bodies or joining them together. The glass may contain impurity amounts of fluoride or oxides of K, Na and Ti and colouring additions of oxides of Zr, Ti and Zn or transition metal compounds, preferably in an amount of no more than 5% in total. The bodies to be coated or joined may be in the form of rods, tubes, discs sheets or particles and may be of alumina, zirconia or electrical porcelain which may be joined to Pt or an alloy based thereon. The glass may be applied as a water slurry or as a sintered preform.
