Abstract

1455254 Latch gear G C RAWLINS 30 Nov 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 57898/72 Heading B8L Safety cut-out in a hydraulically actuated lift comprising a platform 6 movable along guides 8 by a pair of hydraulic actuators 10 disposed on opposite sides of the platform and connected therewith by chains 13 passing over sprockets 12 mounted on the head of the actuator, comprises an auxiliary pulley 18 mounted in a housing 21, itself being slidably mounted at the head of the actuator and biased by a spring 22 into an end position. A cable wire or rope 19 passes over the pulley 18 and is secured at opposite ends to the actuator and the platform and during the normal operation of the lift applies no load to the pulley 18. When, however, one or both of the chains 13 break the weight of the platform is transferred to the cable &c. which thus deflects the pulley against the bias so that a collar 25, mounted coaxial with the pulley closes a switch 26 to switch off a pump supplying fluid to the actuators. External means (not shown) may then be used to actuate the hydraulics to lower the platform.
