Abstract

1455031 Sodium-sulphur cells ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 15 May 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 7006/74 Heading H1B A sodium-sulphur cell comprises a current collector in contact with the cathodic reactant 11, the current collector being formed of consolidated or sintered titanium carbide or chromium carbide or a layer 21 of one of these materials on a substrate 22. The consolidation may be achieved by hot pressing or plasma spraying and the substrate 22 may be steel or aluminium. Alternatively the current collector may be a solid rod or tube of the carbide material. In another cell construction, the cathode collector comprises an outer steel housing with a layer of the carbide material on its inner surface. Other cell features are similar to those described in co-pending application 4884/75.
