Abstract

1454956 Polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate films TEIJIN Ltd 11 March 1974 10800/74 Heading B5B [Also in Division G2] A film used as a base for a photographic film is formed from a substantially linear polyester of intrinsic viscosity, as measured in orthochlorophenol at 35‹ C., of 0À40 and with at least 90 mol. per cent of the structural units being ethylene-2,6-naphthalate units. The film is biaxially orientated and heat-set and has a haze of no more than 4À5%, a Youngs modulus of from 50,000 to 60,000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> in both the longitudinal and lateral directions. The film may be prepared from a blend of polymers, provided that at least 90 mol. per cent of the structural units in the blend are ethylene- 2,6-naphthalate units. The saturated shrinkage or saturated expansions at 180‹ C. in both longitudinal and lateral directions is no more than 0À9%.
