Abstract

1454952 Presses SCAPA ENG Ltd 3 Feb 1975 [8 Feb 1974] 05970/74 Heading B1D In a method of pressing pulp (e.g. paper) the open-bottomed container 25 filled with pulp from hopper 43 by chute 30, is moved by piston-cylinder means 32 over press chamber 19 to fill it, the container 25 is returned to its filling position, moisture-permeable press plate 20 is moved to close the top of chamber 19, the chamber 19 is pivoted to a horizontal position by piston-cylinder means 16, the moisturepermeable press plate 21 is moved by pistoncylinder means 23 to press the pulp, the expressed moisture draining from the plates 20, 21, the plate 20 is retracted and the plate 21 is moved to eject the pressed block 41 onto openwork conveyor 40. The chamber 19 and plates 20, 21 are then returned to their original positions. Each plate comprises a hollow body having a face provided with apertures and covered with filter material. The embodiment shown comprises two banks of press chambers 19 associated with a common hopper 43 in which is mounted rotatable blades 45 carrying brushes, each bank being movable between the vertical and horizontal positions by a respective piston-cylinder means 16. In another embodiment the press chambers may be angularly spaced, pivoted individually and operated in sequence.
