1454158 Amplitude compressors J A ADCOCK 10 March 1975 [25 March 1974] 9792/75 Heading H4R The amplitude of a signal, represented by Asin#, is compressed by generating quadrature components Asin#, Acos# from the input, squaring and adding then square-rooting to extract "A", and dividing one of the quadrature components by "A" to produce a unit amplitude output sin#. An extra component "a" may be added to "A" to adjust the output amplitude to A/(A + a).
