1454139 Setting bead cores in manufacture of pneumatic tyres VSES NI I KONSTRUKT INST PO OBORUDO DLYA SHIN PROMYSHLENNOSTI 28 Feb 1974 9019/74 Heading B7C One end of a group of carcass plies 1 mounted on a drum 2 is rigidly gripped by a pair of elements 3, 4, on levers of a gripping mechanism so as to prevent slipping of the plies relative to the elements, and the elements are then moved by the mechanism radially and axially inwardly relative to the drum. A bead core 8 is, subsequently (Figs. 1 and 2) or simultaneously (Fig. 5), applied by setting means 9, and, after removal of the setting means, the elements are moved to turn the end of the group of plies about the bead core. The rigid gripping is maintained until the end of the group of plies is turned-up, so that, depending on the position at which the end is rigidly gripped, the bead core setting may result in the group of plies being stretched.
