Abstract

1454119 Peeling vegetables KIREMKO BV 19 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 12190/74 Heading A4C A device for steam-heating potatoes &c. comprises a vessel 1 on shafts 8, 10 rotatable in bearings 9, 11 respectively attached to a frame, the vessel containing a lid 17 fastened by an arm 19 to a rotatable shaft 21 journalled in sleeves (22) in the vessel wall, one end of shaft 21 projecting from the vessel and being coupled with an arm 24 secured on the outside of the vessel for opening and closing lid 17 in an opening 12 of the vessel. Vessel 1 comprises a cylindrical sheath 2 and two hemispherical ends 3, 4 carrying sleeves 5, 6 respectively for the shafts 8, 10 respectively. Hollow lid 17 bears on packing 16 attached to the top end of ring 14, the lower end of which ring is secured to a flange 15 bolted to a flange 13 attached to annular rim opening 12. One end of arm 19 is pivotally coupled to lid 17 by pin 20 which has some clearance in a hole through ears 18, the other end of the arm being fixed to shaft 21. One end of shaft 21 is fixed to one end of an arm 24, the other end of which arm is pivotally coupled to the piston-rod 25 of a setting cylinder 26. The cylinder is pivotally connected to a support 27 fixed to the vessel outer wall. The empty vessel is rotated through 180 degrees about the axis of shafts 8, 10 i.e. at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the vessel and compressed air is supplied through hollow shaft 8 and transverse bore 28 and ducts (not shown) to cylinder 26 to open lid 17. Potatoes are added, the vessel rotated and steam supplied through hollow shaft 10 to loosen the peel. The vessel is stopped in the position shown and lid 17 opened to the dotted line position so that the treated potatoes drop from the vessel.
