Abstract

1454118 Making particle board DANT & RUSSELL Inc and E POTTER 6 March 1974 9963/74 Heading B5A A process for producing chipboard from a mixture of lignocellulosic particles and a binder, e.g. a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin, by the simultaneous application of pressure and heat, comprises compressing a quantity of the particles in a mould 10 by means of a press 30, e.g. to a density of at least 5À33 times the non- compressed density, and a thickness of at least 1# inches, removing the mould from the press whilst maintaining the pressure on the particles by means of a plate 26 and locking bolts 28, and placing the mould in a heated oven to cure the resin before removing the finished board from the mould. In Fig. 4, not shown, the press comprises eccentric rollers (42). The bolts 28 can be replaced by spring-loaded cams or lugs.
