Abstract
1454056 Catalytic converter for exhaust gas REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 22 Jan 1974 [24 Jan 1973] 2978/74 Heading B1F [Also in Division F1] A catalytic converter treatment of I.C. engine exhaust gases comprises a casing defined by a pair of sheet metal semi-cylindrical shells 21, 22 welded together and surrounding a catalytic block wrapped in a stove-hardened refractory cement-impregnated winding of glass fibre in thread or cloth form, and then surrounded by a corrugated sleeve of stainless steel wire cloth or glass fibre cloth. The block assembly may be resiliently held in the casing by means of cradles formed of straps of expanded metal welded to the interior of the shells and inwardly directed projections so formed in the casing wall by perforations may grip the outer wrapping of the assembly. The catalytic block may comprise a unitary ceramic block of ceramic material having a plurality of longitudinal through passages or it may be formed of a plurality of superimposed ceramic discs having axial through passages. In either case, the block carries a catalyst e.g. platinum.
