Abstract

1454045 Releasable heel binding for skis COBER FABBRICA ARTICOLI SPORTIVI SPA 28 Jan 1974 [15 Feb 1973 25 Sept 1973] 03885/74 Heading A6D A releasable heel binding for skis comprises an elongated body 9 connected to the ski; a displaceable unit 12 sliding longitudinally relative to body 9 the displaceable unit including a displaceable body 13, a pressure lever 14 acting on the heel of a ski-boot and a coupling lever 15 acting on the pressure lever; a compression spring 25 Fig. 5 or a flexion spring 56 Fig. 6 (not shown) interposed between the fixed body and the displaceable unit and a stop 10 connected to the fixed body for engagement by the coupling lever after an initial clearance has been exceeded. In an embodiment the body 9 is pivotably connected by means of a U-shaped stirrup 1 to a plate 3 which pivots on the ski 5. The displaceable unit 12 which slides on the fixed body also slides longitudinally on the shanks of the stirrup on bearing surfaces 13b of guides 13a which project from the displaceable body 13 on both sides of the shanks. Pressure lever 14 is hinged on the rear of the displaceable body and carries at it's front end a roller 18 that presses against the ski-boot heel, the pressure being applied by the compression spring 25 acting between the fixed body and the coupling lever 15 pivoted on the displaceable body. When the ski-boot is in position the spring 25 presses the coupling lever into a locking position in which a tooth 21 on this lever engages a pin 19 near the upper end of the pressure lever. The coupling lever is pivoted on a shaft 20 on the displaceable body at a point below the axis of the compression spring which creates a small torque tending to keep lever 15 coupled to the pressure lever 14. This arrangement allows the heel a limited movement in normal use but if the upper limit is exceeded the displaceable body is pushed backwards until the roller 23a at the lower end of the coupling lever engages the stop 10a, further movement of the heel causing the lever to rotate in the direction of the arrow B Fig. 5 until the tooth 21 leaves engagement with pin 19. When the pin 19 has passed beyond the tooth the pressure lever rises releasing the heel from roller 18 and the coupling lever is then thrust forwards by the spring 25. The pin 19 then rests on the inclined surface 21a which urges it upwards forcing the lever 14 into a raised position allowing the heel to be removed as shown by the broken lines Fig. 5. The heel binding may be opened manually by exerting a backward pull on the strap 26 by means of the eyelet 26b. In another embodiment by some modification of the components a flexion spring may be used in place of the compression spring, the mode of operation being similar to that of the first embodiment.
