Abstract

1453356 Wells &c SCHLUMBERGER Ltd 15 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973] 01933/74 Heading E1F A well having a reservoir containing oil and gas under pressure and with a standing column of liquid is treated by injecting stable foam at pressure to drive at least part of the column back into the formation. Wells ceasing to produce because the formation pressure is insufficient to lift a column of degasified oil are recompleted by injecting foam to force at least part of the column back into the formation, closing-off the well until the oil from the column has gasified, and opening the well so that the foam is ejected and the well produced. A well may be chemically treated by introducing a slug of chemicals into the formation by injecting the foam, this process being finished before the oil has time to gasify. A gelatine plug may separate the oil and foam to permit use of high density foam and a gelatine plug may be formed on the top of the foam and water then supplied to increase the pressure on the formation. A slug of corrosion inhibitor may be forced down the well by the foam, gelatine plugs being inserted between the oil and the inhibitor and the foam and the inhibitor. The Specification gives formulae for the supply and selection of foam.
