1453296 Flameproofing compositions CIBAGEIGY AG 16 Nov 1973 53455/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] A flameproofing composition for organic fibres comprises (1) a tetramethylol phosphonium (THP) compound or a self-condensate thereof or a condensate thereof with a reactive nitrogen compound, (2) a soft-handle agent Q-A-D, wherein A is a C 2-3 alkylene radical, Q is R-CO-NH-A-NX- or and D is Q or is H, -OH, -NH 2 , -CO-NHR or -NH-CO-R, R being a C 9-23 alkyl or alkenyl radical, which may be quaternized with an alkyl halide of dialkyl sulphate having C 1-2 alkyl radicals or C 1-4 halocarboxylic acid ester of a C 1-22 alkanol or of an ether alcohol of up to 60 C atoms, (3) a watersoluble amino-1 : 3 : 5-triazine having 2-4 methylol groups, (4) optionally, an optionally methylolated, optionally etherified, cyanamide, urea, guanidine, dicyandiamide, cyanourea, biuret or guanylurea, and (5) optionally, an amine of molecular weight below 100. The compounds (2) may be prepared by heating a fatty acid with a polyalkylene polyamine in 1 : 1 molar ratio in a solvent, e.g. xylene or toluene, and eliminating water. Preferably the aqueous composition contains 200-750 gpl of (1), 3-20 gpl of (2), 20-200 gpl of (3), up to 120 gpl of (4) and up to 100 gpl of (5); other customary additives, listed, may be present. In Preparations 1-11 0À95-1À1 mols of water per mol are eliminated from THP chloride, the product optionally being etherified with methanol or dibromopropanol, and ca. 0À65 mols from THP hydroxide or bromide; in Preparations 12-15 minor amounts of urea, cyanamide, dicyandiamide or guanidine are condensed with the selfcondensates so obtained; in Preparations 16-63 THP chloride (or bromide or hydroxide) is cocondensed with 0À2-1 molar proportion of cyanamide, dicyandiamide, urea, ethyleneurea, propyleneurea, acetylenediurea, dihydroxyethyleneurea, dodecylamine, ethylene diamine, dimethylaminopropylamine, aminoethoxyethanol, ethanolamine, aniline, diethylene triamine, N aminopropylmorpholine, stearylamine, thiourea, biuret, guanidine HCl, guanylurea phosphate, dimethylol guanidine carbonate, the compounds oxalic diamide, hydroxyethyl carbamate, dimethylol methyl carbamate, methyl carbamate, nitrilo - tris - propionamide, melamine, diethylphosphono-ethylguanamine, acetoguanamine, trimethylolmelamine, triglycidyl isocyanurate, or the mono- or di-methylol derivatives of dicyandiamide, urea, thiourea and biuret. In the examples 1 : 1 or 2 : 1 polyestercotton fabric is treated with baths containing (1) 535-860 gpl of THP chloride or hydroxide, or a condensate of THP chloride alone or with urea, dimethylolurea or guanidine hydrochloride, (2) 30-35 gpl of a variety of the specified soft-handle agents, typically (3) 80-134 gpl of a di- and/or trimethylolmelamine, which may be methylated, or a dimethylol acetoguanamine, optionally with (4) 30-161 gpl of urea, dimethylourea, dimethoxymethylurea, cyanamide, biuret, or dicyandiamide and (5) 26-67 gpl of allylamine, piperidine or a variety of other amines.
