Abstract
1453235 Purifying hydrocarbons PETROLCHEMISCHES KOMBINAT SCHWEDT VEB 8 April 1974 [30 May 1973] 15402/74 Heading C5E Hydrocarbons which have been treated microbiologically or with enzymes are purified by liquid-liquid extraction using aqueous H 3 PO 4 as the extraction agent. In examples, hydrocarbon fractions from the fermentation of 240-360‹ C. fractions are treated with aqueous H 3 PO 4 and then washed with water or ammonia water. The aqueous H 3 PO 4 and/or the water or ammonia water can be passed to the fermentation process as sources of phosphorus, carbon and nitrogen and/or to regulate the pH. A surfactant, e.g. an ethylene oxide-propylene concentrate, can be used to improve separation during the extraction. Comparative examples describe the use of aqueous H 2 SO 4 and aqueous HC1 as alternatives to phosphoric acid.
