Abstract

1453093 Fabric-softening soap compositions COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 30 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50389/73 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] Fabric-softening compositions, essentially free from non-ionic and anionic non-soap detergents, comprise a cationic quaternary ammonium fabric softener and a soap, the weight ratio of soap to cationic softener being from 1 : 1 to 2 : 1. The cationic fabric softener may be an imidazolinium compound such as 2-heptadecyl- 1 - methyl - 1 - (2 - stearoylamido)ethyl imidazolinium methyl sulphate or an acyclic compound such as dimethyl ditallow ammonium chloride. The soap may be derived from tallow and/or coconut oil. The compositions, when applied to fabrics in aqueous solution, provide both softness and whiteness. The application may be as a final rinse during laundering or as a separate operation.
