Electrodes; moulds; supporting electrodes; preparing surfaces; treating after electrolysis.-Metal plates or sheets are deposited on a cathode consisting of a metal plate e fitted within a frame g which is insulated round its edges and part of its faces, so that the deposit covers the plate and part of the frame, and can be removed by detaching the frame. As shown, the cathode is doublesided and is fitted with an inner frame h and an outer frame g. The plate is recessed at the edges or made up from three layers d, e, f as shown so that the surfaces of the plate and frames are level; the frames may, however, project beyond the surfaces of the plate. A gap may be left between the plate and frames so as to produce lines of cleavago in the deposit; if these are not required, the gap may be stopped with wax. Lugs c project from the plate through notches in the frames, and lugs or flanges may also be provided on the frames so that they can be forced apart; the flanges may be of streamline form. During removal of the frames, the plate may be held by a sucker. The frames may be secured to the plate by pegs. A wooden or other frame i serving as insulation may also be of streamline form and may be pegged or sprung on. The plate may be covered with a stripping composition or with silver or nickel, sulphurized or oxidized.
