Abstract

1452333 Bread slicing machines HAAGSE BAKKERIJMACHINEFABRIEK ARNOLD KALMEIJER BV 29 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50130/73 Heading A4C Apparatus for slicing loaves comprises at least one group of parallel knives set in a frame which is reciprocated by a motor through a crank and connecting rod transmission; a chassis supporting the motor and the/each frame, and means for effecting relative movement of the loaf and frame(s), the/ each frame being rigidly secured to its corresponding connecting rod and coupled with the chassis via coupling means in such a way that part of the frame to which the coupling means is connected is constrained to move in a substantially straight path. As described there are two frames 3, 4 having knives 1, 2 respectively, each knife comprising a blade the lower end of which is connected by a yoke 10 to the lower beam of an associated frame 3 or 4 and the upper end of which is suspended from a spring-loaded lever 11 rockably mounted in the upper beam of the frame. The knives of the two frames are arranged alternately. Frames 3, 4 are rigidly secured to connecting rods 5, 6 reciprocated in opposite directions by motor 9 via cranks. The lower beam of each frame is secured to the centre of a leaf-spring 13 the ends of which bear on a rectangular framework 14 bearing on the chassis 16 via shock absorbers 15. By suitably distributing the mass of each assembly defined by a group of knives 1 or 2 and corresponding frame 3 or 4 and connecting rod 5 or 6, it is ensured that a horizontal axis about which the assembly is dynamically balanced is located at the level of the lower beam of frame 3 or 4 and the coupling part of the spring and frame is located on this axis which performs only a rectilinear vertical movement. The loaf 17 is moved by a pressure member 19 comprising vertical plates spaced so that they can pass between the knives 1, 2. Member 19 is mounted on a slide 20 which is pulled towards the knives by a weight 23 suspended from a pair of flexible elements 22 each of which extends over a reversing roller 29 and a drive roller 30 driven by a motor 33 and carries a counterpoise 31. In a modification slide 20 is moved by a flexible element the ends of which are secured to a spring and which passes over a reversing roller and a drive roller.
