1452207 4-Carboxy-2-mercaptoethyl-thiazolidine derivatives FERLUX-CHIMIE SA 13 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 11078/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises 2-(2-thioethyl)-4- carboxy thiazolidine derivatives of the general Formula (I) in which R is selected from: a hydrogen atom; an alkyl radical; a phenyl radical which may or may not be substituted; an alkylaryl radical of the Formula (II) in which n is 1, 2 or 3, and the aromatic nucleus may or may not be substituted; an acyl radical of the formula -CO-R 1 , in which R 1 represents an alkyl radical; a heterocyclic group of the formula -(CH 2 ) n1 -R 2 , in which n<SP>1</SP> is 0, 1 or 2 and R 2 is a heterocyclic radical; and a group of the Formula (III) in which n<SP>11</SP> is 1, 2 or 3, R<SP>1</SP> 1 and R<SP>1</SP> 2 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, and R 3 represents a hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy or amine group. They are made by reacting acrolein with RSH and further reacting the mixture obtained with cysteine or its hydrochloride. Pharmaceutical preparations having analgesic, mucolytic, hypotensive, antihypertensive and cardiostimulative actions contain (I) as active ingredient. Administration may be orally, rectally, parenterally or topically.
