Abstract

1452169 Preserving hay FEED SERVICE (LIVESTOCK) Ltd 28 Oct 1974 [16 April 1974] 16505/74 Heading A2B Hay is protected from bacterial decay by applying sorbic acid to it, preferably in solution, with propionic and/or butyric acid in amounts of 0.4 to 2 lbs/ton of hay. Additionally the sorbic acid may be admixed with one or more of formaldehyde, acetic acid, benzoic acid, iso propanol, propylene glycol, an antioxidant or a flavouring. Such compositions usually contain 4-24% by wt. of sorbic acid and are applied in amounts of 5 to 30 lb/ton of hay.
