Abstract

1452073 Polyamide-urethane-urea resin TEIJIN Ltd 4 Oct 1973 46482/73 Addition to 1308857 Heading C3R A thermoplastic polyamide-urethane-urea resin is prepared by reacting: (A) a linear polyol oligomer having OH terminal groups, free from ethylene terephthalate units liquid at 80‹ C. and M.W. 400-4000; (B) a linear polyester oligomer having a hydroxyl group at both terminals, M.W. 500-4000, m.p. 50-220‹ C., 55-100 mol. per cent of the molecular chain consisting of ethylene terephthalate and ethylene naphthalate units, the former occupying 50-85 mol. per cent of the linear oligomer; (C) a linear polyamide oligomer, M.W. 400-4000, m.p. 100-200‹ C., at least 80% of the terminal groups thereof being amino groups; and (D) an organic diisocyanate. The ingredients are used in amounts such that the mole ratio of (D) to (A) + (B) + (C) is 0À8 to less than 1; the wt. ratio (B) + (C) to (A) is 1 to 3; the wt. ratio (C) to (B) + (C) is 0À05-0À85 and the wt. per cent of (C) to (A) + (B) + (C) + (D) is 3-55%. (A) may be a polyalkylene ether glycol or an aliphatic polyester, e.g. polyethylenepropylene adipate. A typical (B) may be derived from 15 mol. per cent naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid, 65 mol. per cent terephthalic acid and 20 mol. per cent isophthalic acid reacted with ethylene glycol. (C) may comprise 30 parts 6-nylon, 35 parts 6,6- nylon and 35 parts 6,10-nylon. D may be xyxylene diisocyanate. (A) may be first reacted with excess (D) to yield an isocyanate terminated prepolymer to which (B) and (C) are separately added. Uses.-Hot melt adhesive for bonding fibres and films.
