Abstract

1452013 Monitoring webs SIG SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE GES 22 Aug 1974 [23 Aug 1973] 36852/74 Heading B8R A guide roller 4 for a web 2 has an exciter element 5 fixed thereto, the element, when rotated, causing a pulse generator 7 to produce positive and negative voltage transitions in its output, which output is supplied to a monostable multivibrator 8 which produces output pulses of constant duration at each transition, these pulses being supplied to a converter 9 which energizes a relay 11. When the relay is energized, an associated machine is switched on, but if the web runs out or is torn, the roller ceases to rotate, the pulses stop and the machine is switched off. The element 5 may be a perforated disc, a plastics disc having peripheral metal pins or an element with a toothed rim. The pulse generator may be of the type having a sensing tip 7 or a photo-electric cell. The associated machine may be the wrapping machine disclosed in Specification 1,160,281, the generator and associated circuitry of that Specification being replaced by the pulse generator and exciter element &c. described above.
