Abstract

1451315 Anti-skid braking systems GIRLING Ltd 28 Nov 1973 [25 July 1973] 14706/76 Divided out of 1451314 Heading F2F In a power-operated hydraulic master cylinder assembly having a master cylinder piston 4 actuated by a modulating piston 65 responsive to fluid pressure in a pressure chamber 51 controlled by a booster valve 53, a pedaloperated valve actuating assembly 20 has a portion 92 which actuates the modulating and master cylinder pistons 65 and 4 directly on boost pressure failure but is normally prevented from so doing by a stop 83 subject to boost pressure acting on a portion 82 of the valve actuating assembly. As shown, three master cylinders 81 and modulating pistons 65 are spaced about the valve 53 and the stop 83 is biased to its operative position by a spring 91. Individual anti-skid valves are provided between the pressure chamber 51 and an inlet 69 to a space 60 surrounding each piston 65. The space 60 is normally open to a reservoir, but on skidding it is connected to the chamber 51, equalizing the pressure on the opposed differential area faces of the piston 65 and hence retracting the pistons 65 and 4.
