1451184 Magnetization SCHEIDT & BACHMANN GmbH 14 Feb 1975 [16 Feb 1974] 6463/75 Heading H1P Apparatus for code magnetizing magnetic cards M comprises casing walls interconnected by cross members 1a, with base 2, backwall 3, and closure cover 4 all of aluminium. The front wall 5 is of steel plate whose top edge is bent to define with the edge of cover 4 an entry to a card slot between plate 5 and aluminium block 6. The latter has plural guideslots 6a containing respective movable steel strips 7 corresponding in number to the maximum number of data items to be impressed on the cards. Each strip is recessed at 7a to engage a transverse locking pin 8 end mounted of locking levers 9 pivoted on bearing shaft 10 carrying operating lever 11, against tension springs 13. Permanent or electro magnet 15 is disposed on plate 5 to produce flux in a magnetic card through strips 7 pressed thereon by a pocketed compression spring for each selected strip on release by depression of lever 11 to displace pin 8. Coding shaft 18 rotatable in block 6 has several rows of recesses around its periphery to represent predetermined codes, engaging corresponding balls 19 in a channel of block 6, which also engage corresponding indentations under each strip 7. The shaft is retained in positions selected by coding knob 18b by a spring biased ball 14 engaging corresponding indentations. After code selection a magnet card M is introduced, lever 11 is depressed to release strips 7 selected by the engagement of associated balls 19 in the recesses; which press on the card surface with their edges so that the card is magnetized at the positions of contact of the strips. The coding shaft may have projections selectively engaging respective recesses of the strips to prevent movement. The coding shaft may be rotated at preselected time intervals by a motor, which also drives the operating lever successively.
