Abstract

The identification card, here a credit card, bears information stored in two different ways. One type of information (IM) is recorded on a magnetic carrier (2) whilst the other type of information (IU) is formed by the position and orientation of reflex surfaces which are embedded in the card and are not accessible by mechanical sensing. The magnetically stored information (IM) is formed during the production of the card in accordance with cryptological methods from selected parts of the visually stored information (IU) and a secret code (IE1). At the same time, the magnetically stored information (IM) also contains further information, amounts of money or the like. During the testing of the card, the authenticity of the magnetically stored information is tested by means of the same secret information and the same selected parts of the visually stored information. <IMAGE>
