Abstract

1451102 Evaporators UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 20 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 9136/73 Heading BIB [Also in Division F4] An apparatus for use in a falling film evaporator (e.g. multi-effect evaporator) comprises an evaporation chamber provided with horizontal heat exchange tubes, one end of each tube protruding through an end wall of the evaporation chamber into a condensate box so that there is a gap between the tube and the end wall. The other end of each tube protrudes through the opposite end wall of the evaporation chamber into a vapour (e.g. steam) box and preferably has a gap between it and the opposite end wall. In use vapour is passed through the tubes and condenses therein as it imparts heat to a falling film of liquor. The gaps act as vents to discharge incondensible gases from the condensate formed in the tubes, into the evaporation chamber.
