Abstract

1450929 Electric selective signalling WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 28 Dec 1973 [3 Jan 1973] 59939/73 Heading G4H In a time division multiplex system for processing data from a plurality of sources 10 in a central control unit 30 and transferring it to respective display units 40, the control unit generates address signals for the sources and display units, and each display unit when addressed sends an enable signal, GO, to the control unit. This allows a standard address generator having spare capacity to be used while avoiding spurious fault signals which would arise from addressed but non-existent sources and display units. As described, the data represents the positions of control rods in a nuclear reactor, two encoders being provided for each rod. The control unit checks the data for each rod and if no error is present combines both signals to give a position indication to the full resolution of the system. If one encoder signal is in error, only the good signal is used to give an indication to half resolution.
