Abstract
1450540 Determination of bilirubin and urobilinogen MILES LABORATORIES Inc 31 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 60221/73 Heading G1B A test composition used in the determination of both bilirubin and urobilinogen in aqueous solution comprises a compound of Formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP>, which may be the same or different, are anions and in which the benzene rings may be substituted by -H, -CH 3 , -OCH 3 , -SO 3 H or -Cl, and an acid constituent which may be a solid adduct of a Friedel-Crafts salt and an organic Lewis base, the adduct being hydrolysable to release a mineral acid, or a solid water-soluble organic or inorganic acid. The composition may be in the form of a dry powder or tablet containing an effervescent couple or may be incorporated in to or on to a carrier member, itself attached to a holder or support. A method for the determination of both bilirubin and urobilinogen in an aqueous solution comprises contacting the aqueous solution with a compound of formula as above or a composition of the compound with a carrier or diluent. Preferred compounds are 4, 4<SP>1</SP>-diazobiphenyl compounds.
