Abstract

1450383 Production of ammonium phosphate FISONS Ltd 29 April 1973 [3 Aug 1972] 36211/72 Heading C1A Ammonium phosphate having an NH 3 ; H 3 PO 4 molar ratio of 0À8 : 1 to 2À1 : 1 is prepared by reacting phosphoric acid containing 38 to 55 wt. per cent of P 2 O 5 and 3-20% of added sulphuric acid with ammonia under superatmospheric pressure to give a fluid ammonium phosphate solution at its boiling point under the reaction conditions containing 4-13% water, which is then expelled into a zone at ambient pressure reducing its water content to 3-10% and giving a particulate solid product. The pressure may be 10-50 p.s.i.g. The zone at ambient pressure may be a spray-drying or prilling tower preferably with a flexible wall-lining, a granulator or a moving belt with a flaker. The material may be treated with ammonia and/or an acid in the granulator, the NH 3 : H 3 PO 4 ratio being raised to 1À5 : 1 to 2À1 : 1 from 0À8 : 1 to 1À5 : 1. Other fertilizer materials may be added.
