Abstract

1449854 Stabilized ethyl cellulose DOW CHEMICAL CO 14 Sept 1973 [14 Sept 1972 23 July 1973] 43319/73 Heading C3F The tendency of ethyl cellulose lacquers to discolour in the presence of iron and moisture is prevented by the addition of one or more Na, K, Mn or Ca nitrobenzoate salts (except sodium m-nitrobenzoate). Sodium o- and p-nitrobenzoates are the most effective. In the examples the ethyl cellulose used has a D.S. of 2À30 and 5% viscosity of 70 c.p.s. The composition must have an apparent pH (as herein defined) of at least 5À7. The composition presumably inhibits to corrosion of the iron which gives rise to the discoloration of the lacquer.
