1,139,138. Pentachlorobenzaldehyde derivatives. NIHON NOHYAKU CO. Ltd. 8 Sept., 1966 [14 Sept., 1965; 15 Sept., 1965], No. 40090/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula in which R is either or -CH=C(CN) 2 . The new compounds may be obtained by reacting pentachlorobenzaldehyde with hydrogen cyanide or malononitrile. Preferably the pentachlorobenzalcyanhydrin is prepared by treating a solution of pentachlorobenzaldehyde with sodium bisulphite solution, adding sodium cyanide solution to the mixture and neutralizing with hydrochloric acid.
