1449581 Woven zip fasteners WILLIAM PRYM-WERKE KG 19 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 27175/74 Headings DIE and DIK A woven stringer tape has a helical fastening element 15 surrounding a stuffer warp thread 60, the element 15 being bound to the tape by two sets of warp threads 18, 19, the set 18 being always over the element 15 and passing between limbs 27 thereof to weave-in under weft loops 34 and the set 19 being always under the element 15 and passing between the limbs 27 thereof to weave-in over the weft loops 34. The weft 34 is inserted from the element 15 selvedge and knitted at the far selvedge and additional weft loops may be inserted so that pairs of weft loops are alternately over and under the stuffer warp 60 (Figure 6), and there may be more than one stuffer warp. The element 15 lies on one surface of the tape with connecting loops 26 devoid of warp threads to provide a clean run for the sliding fastener. The tape is woven on a loom have shafts 23, 24 for the tape. body 25 and half healds 41, 42 for the element warps 18, 19. Apart from the shedding to bind-in the warps 18, 19 the half healds 41, 42 are also shed alternately up and down as shown in Figure 11b and 13b to provide for passage of the fastener element 15 which is rotated by a device 47 to form the helical loops. The outer edge 20 of the loops is passed around a mandrel 16 for support during weaving and from which they pass after weaving and the stuffer warp 60 is also rotated around its supply spool 67 to avoid entanglement with the element 15 which passes through the supply spool 67. In Figure 17 are shown two suporting mandrels 16, one for each side of the helical element 15. In Figure 18 three non-rotating stuffer warps 61 are pulled from the supply spool 67 and the element 15 is rotated therearound and around the mandrels 16. The weft loops are inserted by an eyed needle 17, although single picks may be inserted by a shuttle and the warps 18, 19 are supplied over rollers 48. The stuffer warp(s) are raised when it is desired to insert weft thereunder by pusher members 62.
