1449531 Continuous winding machines; doffing and donning MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 22 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02959/ 74 Addition to 1332182 Heading D1J A continuous winding apparatus of the kind in which a rotatable arm 9 carries a pair of parallel tube supporting mandrels such that as one tube becomes fully wound the arm 9 is rotated through 180‹ to saving the fully wound package on one mandrel away from the surface of the drive drum and an empty tube on the other mandrel into engagement with the drive drum, there being a support for the arm 9 movable towards and away from the drive drum; is characterized in that the apparatus includes a shaft 87 on which is a sleeve 81, the sleeve 81 having tube receiving means 90, 91 such that when the shaft 87 is rotated the tube receiving means 90, 91 swing to a setting in which they engage the tube 20 on which a package 21 has been wound and swung away from the drive drum by the arm 9, the sleeve 81 being then slid along the shaft 87 to remove the tube 20 from its mandrel and deposit it upon receiving means 105, the now empty receiving means 90, 91 then proceeding to pick up an empty tube 114 and swing it up into alignment with the empty mandrel. Thereafter the sleeve 81 is moved back along the shaft 87 to place the empty tube 114 on the mandrel. The receiving means may be scoops 91 on arms 90. As the arms 90 swing downwardly, the fully wound package 21 lands on a pair of inclined rails 105 and rolls away from the scoops 91. The arms 90 and scoops pass downwardly beyond the rails 105 to pick up an empty tube 114 from inclined rails 113. The scoop 91 force down an inclined flap 112 so that an empty tube 114 can roll into the scoop 91. As the scoops rise the flaps 112 rise to hold back the other empty tubes 114. In its upward motion the empty tube 114 in the scoops 91 temporarily lifts a hinged section 105' of the rails 105. A pneumatic circuit and associated limit switches for controlling the above described sequence of events is described and illustrated.
