Abstract

1449253 Parachutes S L SNYDER 11 Sept 1973 42763/73 Heading B7G A parachutist 14 has a body harness 12 provided with riser webs 16 for a main parachute and with a pack 22 for an auxiliary parachute, the pack carrying a control mechanism 24 which, in the event of malfunctioning of the main parachute, may be operated to release sequentially the fastenings 18 to the riser webs 16 and open the pack 22 to enable the auxiliary parachute to be deployed. The mechanism 18 includes a mounting plate 34 having a Bowden cable connection 20, 38 with fastening 18, the nipple 40 of the cable being connected to an element 42 which carries a roller 44. A cable 46, anchored at 48 to plate 34, passes over roller 44 and is connected at its free end to a ring 28 which has also a flexible lost-motion cable connection 50 with the locking pins 54 which engage conventional locking cones 56 on the pack cover. When the parachutist pulls ring 28 the mechanism 42, 44, 46, 48 acts as a force multiplier to release the loaded fastenings 18 whereupon cable 50 is tensioned to withdraw pins 54.
