Abstract

144,922. Kitchen, J. G. A. Aug. 19, 1919. Air, treating.-A portable apparatus for warming and humidifying the air of rooms consists of a casing 1, in which is arranged a vaporizing- coil 14 which is connected at one end to a water reservoir 3 and at the other end to horizontallydirected steam nozzles 17. A number of horizontal tubes 10 are arranged at the rear of the nozzles 17, so that air is induced through the tubes by the issuing steam and is heated by the combustion products rising from a burner 18 situated below the vaporizing-coil, the combustion products circulating externally around the tubes 10 and escaping through the outlet 11. A pump 6 supplies compressed air to the reser. voir 3 and the water is thus forced to the coil 14 through the regulating valve 13. A permeable backing may be used to cover the air-inlet of the apparatus. In a modification the pump 6 is arranged inside the reservoir 3 and the nozzles 17 are at the rear of the tubes 10. In a further modification, the vaporizing-coil is electrically heated and the tubes 10 are dispensed with, air being admitted through louvers to the interior of the casing and ejected into the room by the action of the steam nozzles.
