Abstract

Nov 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 39005/72 Heading G4M Documents 1 are photographed on to microfilm 3 or microfiches or aperture cards and the visual information on these is converted using a flying spot scanner into a video signal which is stored on a video disc 6. Two sets of monitor screens 7a, 8a, 9a and 10a, 11a, 12a have associated keyboards 7-12 with a keyboard and monitor screen in one set having an associated keyboard and monitor screen in the other set. Data from the disc 6 is fed to a monitor screen in one set and data keyed in by an operator at the keyboard associated with the monitor screen is compared with data obtained from the store and the data from the keyboard is stored in memory 6. Data is also fed to the associated monitor screen in the other set and a different operator keys in data at its associated keyboard. The keyboard data is then compared character by character with the data from the keyboard of the other set, e.g. data from keyboard 7 and keyboard 10 are compared and if all comparisons are valid data from the disc 6 and verified data, which may be updating, are stored in disc 13 and magnetic tape 14. The comparisons between keyboard entered data and stored data may be coarse to determine, e.g. that the operator is considering the correct record in a batch or the correct field, account number or the like. The data entered by the operator can also be displayed on the screen.
