Abstract
1448599 IC engine inlet and exhaust passages; heating fuel-air mixtures HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KK 5 Dec 1973 56457/73 Heading F1B Inlet and exhaust apparatus for an I.C. engine having main and auxiliary combustion chambers 4, 7 connected by a flame passage 5 comprises a main inlet passage 9 communicating with a main carburetter 8 and an auxiliary inlet passage 11 communicating with an auxiliary carburetter 10 for supplying fuel/air mixture to the chambers 4 and 7 respectively, and an exhaust passage 12 for exhausting gases from chamber 4, the inlet passages 9, 11 being in thermal communication over at least a part of their length with the exhaust passage 12, there being cooling means adapted to receive coolant from the engine cooling system to reduce heat-flow from the inlet and exhaust passages to the carburetters. The cooling means is a jacket 13 with a coolant passage adjacent the auxiliary inlet passage 11 for connection to the coolant passages in engine body 1. The mixture supplied by main carburetter 8 is heated as it passes through chamber 9b in thermal communication with exhaust duct 12 and mixture from auxiliary carburetter 10 is heated in passing through passage 11.
