Abstract

1448263 Supplying gases to rotary kilns ALLIS-CHALMERS CORP 30 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50359/73 Heading F4B In a rotary ore reducing kiln 6 with an internal burner 11, fluid fuel and air from conduits 14 and 16 are distributed to nozzles 12 spaced along said kiln by fluid distribution apparatus 17 including a three-way valve 18 and rotary valve operating mechanism so arranged that fuel is supplied to each nozzle when it is below the charge in the kiln and air is aupplied to each nozzle when it is above the charger. Each valve spindle 27 carries a cam plate 34 with cams 37, 38, 39 and 41, which, as the kiln rotates are engaged in turn to index the plate by trip devices 29, 31, 32 and 33. The latter operate each valve to a "fuel-on", "fuel-off", "air-on" and "air-off" position producing the aforementioned distribution of fuel and air. The valve operating mechanism for each rotary valve may comprise a solenoid valve operatively connected to a fluid motor connected to the rotary valve and arranged for selective actuation according to the position of the nozzle associated with the valve operating mechanism as the kiln rotates.
