Abstract

1448260 Automatic control LAMSON INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Dec 1973 [10 Jan 1973] 57486/73 Heading G3N An apparatus for controlling the release of ink droplets from a nozzle in accordance with the speed of a moving web comprises repetitively counting, for a fixed period of time, pulses corresponding to the web-speed and effecting a second count at the end of which a signal is generated indicating release of an ink droplet. As shown, a pulse generator 10 provides 120 pulses per inch of web travel to a counter 12 which counts for a fixed interval determined by an oscillator 16 and a counter 14. The contents of the counter 12 is stored in a memory 18 and fed to a counter 20 on receipt of a pulse from a generator 22. The generator 22 is actuated in accordance with fixed formats on the web in relation to which variable information is to be printed. The counter 20 provides a pulse dependent on web speed and sensing of the fixed information which, through a digital decoding logic provides a speed corrected pulse which is utilized to release the ink droplets towards the moving web so that the ink will contact the web at the correct location.
