Abstract

Filling and packing pulverulent materials into bags or like receptacles.-Relates to apparatus for filling flour or other pulverulent materials into bags and the like, of the kind comprising a hopper 1 and an horizontal nozzle 3, containing a feedworm 2, and includes also a subordinate apparatus for adjusting the weight of four in the bag. The nozzle is provided with a convex or conical spreading-plate 21, urged towards the nozzle by a spring 32, which is adjustable to vary the density of packing. The clutch for the driving-pulley 12 consists of a helical spring 15, secured at one end to the pulley and formed at the other end with a projection for engaging a notch in a loose disk 16, which is retarded by a brake 17 when the pulley is to be coupled to the worm-shaft 11. To prevent dust from escaping, the hopper 1 is arranged in a separate chamber from that in which the bags are filled, the nozzle 3 projecting through the dividing-wall W. The bag 18 may be held frictionally on the nozzle by means such as a resilient ring 19, the bag being pushed along the nozzle during the filling operation. Springs or weights may be provided for adjusting the grip of the ring. The bag may be supported by a carriage 20. The filled bag is arranged to fall on to the platform of a weighing-machine 23 and flour is added to or removed from the bag, for the purpose of adjusting the weight, by means of worms 26, 25 respectively, which are mounted on a hopper 24. The worm 26 is provided with a clutch. The worm 25 is driven continuously and can be lowered into the bag by means of a hand-lever 27. After the weight has been adjusted, the mouth of the bag is sewn and the bag is transferred to a conveyer 28. The hopper 1 may be provided with an agitator 7 consisting of a bar or paddle carried by arms on a shaft 8 which is rocked by means of an eccentric 10 on the worm-shaft 11.
