Abstract
1448063 Welding for fusion SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM) 14 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 01674/74 Heading B3R [Also in Division F1] A turbine rotor, e.g. for a double flow steam turbine as shown, comprises a number of rings 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9 mounted on a hollow shaft 12 which is supported at its ends on spigots 13, 14 on end discs 5, 10, and the rings and discs are welded together at 15 to 21. The welding is effected by electron beam, the rings being welded first on the horizontal shaft and the welds being checked through radial bores 22 to 26 in the shaft 12. The shaft is then placed vertically and the end discs attached. The thickness of the ends of the shaft have a specified relationship with the outside diameter of the shaft ends. The length of each spigot 13, 14 is at least a quarter of its diameter. The rings and discs are machined to their final shapes prior to assembly. Specification 1,396,965 is referred to.
