Abstract

1447975 Axial flowmeters UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Dec 1973 [5 Dec 1972] 55978/72 Heading F1F An axial-flow impulse flowmeter has a pair of rotors 16, 30, one of which drives a counter 26 via shaft 20 and gears 25, there being means 28, 34 for comparing the rotational speeds of the two rotors in order to detect any malfunctioning of the meter. The comparing means 28, 34 is a pair of rotary fingers driven respectively by the shaft 20 and gears 25, and by a shaft 31, gear 33 and a clutch, engaged when button 36 is depressed. The counter and the comparing means may be electronic, the latter operating continuously and operating a warning when a significant disparity occurs. The mechanism may include a cut-out to disconnect the drive to the counter when a disparity is detected, and means to render the comparing means inoperative at low rotor speeds. A clutch may be engaged to drive an error counter when a disparity is detected.
