Abstract
1447652 Drawing SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [16 Dec 1972] 58179/73 Heading B3P In a method of continuously drawing a wire 7 through two dies 2, 3, hydrostatic pressure is applied to the drawn wire 7<SP>1</SP> located between the two dies 2, 3, the wire being pulled through the first die 2 by a pulling device 1 and through the second die 3 by a take-up device (not shown). A wire 7, e.g. copper, is drawn through a first die 2 by a capstan 1 located in a chamber A which is filled via a conduit 6 with fluid under pressure, e.g. 1000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. After passing around the capstan 1 at least once, the drawn wire 7<SP>1</SP> is further drawn through a second die 3 by a take-up spool which may drive, through gears, the capstan 1. Alternatively, the capstan 1 may be separately driven by an electric motor (16) (Fig. 2, not shown). The back tension F exerted on the wire 7<SP>1</SP> is overcome by the capstan 1. The ratio of the areas of the orifices of the dies 2 and 3 may be 1-5 or 3.
